Insects – where would we bee (haha) without them?

Self pollinating with a paintbrush, that’s where (do your own jokes). Did you know that wasps do as much, if not more, pollinating than bees?

Sorry about the rather sad looking wing on one of the dragonflies. It was a tough winter and I didn’t notice when I was taking the photo. Anyway, it shows the reality of making things from willow. In the right circumstances willow can last a long, long time, but sitting outside exposed to wind, rain, sun and frost you can see them age over the seasons.

How about something less maritime – a squirrel perhaps? Not the best photo but I think I am better with willow than I am with technology. This little fella is, of course, not lifesize as the others have been and I have taken the liberty of putting a nut in his paws to help bring it to life. Too cute?

Red squirrels are threatened across their whole range. We had a mother a kits attending the feeders regularly only to have them squished on the road last spring. In the background you can see the rope high-way we had put in to help them make the journey safely. Sadly someone was in too much of a hurry and we found the bodies by the road.
