Humpback Whale Tail
This is the tale of the tail. I’d done a few creatures at this stage and I’d seen an Orca structure I quite fancied trying. Given we don’t cut the grass in summer I felt that a cetacean breaching out of the lawn might not work on a number of levels so we decided on a tail diving instead. It is not easy to get correct anatomical measurements for a humpback tail, but fortunately I know people who know people and before long I had a picture of a tail, complete with skip for scale (thank you to the amazing team Scottish Marine Animal Strandings Scheme).
I hope I have done these wonderful creatures justice. If you are interested in threats to humpbacks and what is being done about it have a look at https://scottishentanglement.org/
